Vintage Marcasite Watches

18Apr10

We are particularly partial to a bit of marcasite. It sparkles like jem stones in the bracelet of many a vintage ladies’ watch. Or so we thought…

Real marcasite is an unstable mineral and what gets used in jewellery and watch-making is actually pyrite, otherwise known as fool’s gold. It doesn’t have quite the nice ring of marcasite, so we’re going to stick with name that for the vintage marcasite watches at Watch Me Go, rather than being pedants.

A great big hunk of pyrite

Pyrite or fool's gold - not marcasite - is what is used in marcasite jewellery and watches

At the moment we have a lovely vintage marcasite brooch watch and a couple of pretty ladies’ marcasite wristwatches.
