Killer Timex 80 Special Editions
There is something of the 1983 Michael Jackson Thriller video about these new Timex 80 special editions. The combination of a retro eighties look with gloss plastic straps, printed with what looks like dripping blood, is pretty inspired. We’ve got them for sale at Watch Me Go in both black and white.
For those with less inclination towards blood lust, we also have the rather prim-and-proper Timex 80 Polka Dot, with white polka dots on a gloss navy blue strap. It’s a great mix of fifties patterns and eighties styles. Very 2010.

Once upon a time there was a shepherd looking after his sheep in the green and rolling hills of a remote part of England. Suddenly, a brand new Land Rover roars up the country lane and screeches to a halt next to him. The driver – a young man wearing an Armani suit, Ralph Lauren shoes, Gucci sunglasses and a Rolex – gets out and asks the shepherd, ‘If I guess how many sheep you have, will you give me one of them?’

The shepherd looks at the young man, then looks at the grazing sheep and replies, ‘Okay.’ The young man whips out his iPhone, logs onto the NASA website, scans the ground using his GPS, opens a database and prints out a report on his portable printer. He turns to the shepherd and says, ‘You have 1,586 sheep here.’ The shepherd answers, ‘That’s correct, you may have your sheep.’
The young man takes his animal and puts it in the back of his Land Rover. The shepherd looks at the young man and says, ‘If I guess your profession, will you return the animal to me?’
‘Yes, why not.’
‘You are a management consultant.’
‘That’s amazing, how did you know?’
‘Very simple,’ answers the shepherd. ‘First, you come here without being called. Second, you charge me for something I already knew and third, you don’t understand anything about my business. Now can I have my dog back please?’
Sorry if you are a consultant, but you have to smile at that! And wearing a Rolex and other big luxury labels does kind of say a lot about you… that’s why we’re not into status symbols at Watch Me Go. Instead we go for quirky, fashionable and unique watch designs that we really love, and think will make you look and feel great. I wonder what cool watch that shepherd was wearing?

Famous people who have worn Tissot watches include the singer Carmen Miranda, Elvis Presley, Grace Kelly and Nelson Mandela. James Stewart also wore a Tissot watch in Rear Window. (Not to mention the blatant product placement of a modern Tissot on Angelina Jolie’s wrist in the movies Lara Croft Tomb Raider and Mr. & Mrs. Smith.)
Now’s your chance to join the Tissot club with an original 1930s/40s Tissot Antimagnetique vintage watch. This one has a new green leather strap, which we thing looks super-cool. We’d be prepared to swap it for a black one if it’s too loud for you, though.
Tissot are high quality watches, coming from the same stable as Omega since the 1930s, so this is good value at £149, with free UK delivery. It has a relatively small face so would look good on a lady as well as a man.

So we have a new range of watches from ODM, the innovative watch manufacturer who produced the JC/DC watches for Jean Charles de Castelbajac.
This time they’ve paired up with the UK designer Michael Young to create the ‘Reversible’ range. The analogue and digital watches have a different take on the reversible theme, although both of them switch the usual role of display and buttons. On the ODM Reversible Digital, four large buttons make up the face and the two digital windows are moved to the sides. This means you can set two times and just turn the watch upside down on your wrist when you change time zones (for all you jet setters).
The ODM Reversible Analogue also switches the display to the rim of the watch and the controls to the middle. A large central button hides the hands all except for their tips, so they appear to float around the edge of the dial – tap the touch-sensitive button twice and the backlight glows to tell you the time in the dark. Which looks pretty cool…
Both of these are available in black and in a reddish orange.

Omegas aren’t usually our thing at Watch Me Go, as they’re a bit on the pricey side and we mainly go for affordable vintage watches. We do like them, though, and the older the better. G’s grandfather had a 1953 Omega Seamaster and so when we saw this 1950s ladies Omega of a similar type, we had to have it.
Just like the one G remembers, it has gold numerals and hands on a creamy two-tone face, with the minute markers in a circle inside the numerals. The face has a lovely warm patina but we suspect this watch has never been worn, as it has the original Omega branded strap in perfect condition. Buy it, look after it, and give it to your grandchildren in the years to come…

Who’s Your Daddy?
So Father’s Day was invented just over a hundred years ago by a church-going woman in Spokane, Washington State. Being a dad may seem like a rather strange thing to celebrate – you had sex and managed to produce an offspring, me, well done! – so even when it was first introduced in 1909, the idea was derided and parodied by critics.
But people liked the idea of recognising their father’s role in their lives and thanking them for all that paternal love and wisdom. Starting with the wearing of a red rose to honor a living father, and a white rose to honor a dead one, it later became a day of giving cards and gifts. It caught on across the world and is now celebrated in over 52 countries including the US, Russia, Taiwan, Guatemala and Nepal.
Dads are often very tricky to buy for. They’ve already got a humorous beer glass, hundreds of ties, special golfing socks, books about Winston Churchill and George Best, and lots of expensive wines that you can’t really beat on your measly budget. So what to get them for that special day, Sunday 20th June?
A watch, of course! A symbol of eternity, a stylish accessory they wouldn’t buy for themselves, a thoughtful gift.
So go and have a gander at our Men’s Dress watches, Design watches and maybe even our rather trendy Timex 80 watches… the perfect way to say Well Done for Being My Dad.

Beam me up, JC/DC
Jean Charles de Castelbajac is one of our favourite fashion designers, especially since he’s developed a taste for creating cool watches. But most recently he’s thrown his hand to set design, with five amazing window displays and a pop-up boutique at London’s famous department store Selfridges.
His ‘alienation’ installation in the Wonder Room tells the story of an alien invasion. The backdrops combine fabric prints of sci-fi film landscapes with his trademark cartoon blue sky and white clouds. Black mannequins with bunny-rabbit ears and bulbs for eyes pose next to a pair of legs dangling out of a spaceship. Picture frames display black and white images of Henry VIII with the head of an alien… It’s certainly an insight into the mind of this ‘King of Cartoon’ who says, enigmatically, “We are all aliens in this world”.
To tie in with his ‘alienation’ theme, which he and his team have been working on for the last 8 months, JC/DC has also designed a new collection of watches. The UFO watch combines a sleek (and fun) design with light and sound functions, so it’s like having your own baby space ship on your wrist.
We’re currently stocking the JC/DC UFO watch in black, £99 with free UK delivery.

Novoris vintage men’s watch
We recently picked up a lovely vintage men’s watch – a 1950s Novoris. It’s not a make we’ve come across before and it’s a slightly odd name. Wouldn’t Novaris make more sense? Well a quick bit of Googling reveals that Novoris is a trademark of Oris, who are still very much in business and are very well known. Thank god the internet is populated with useless information.

Photographing the classics
We’re working to update the photography on Watch Me Go, as we’ve learnt a thing or two since the site was established last year. We’ve just updated the Ice Watches from Casio – hopefully you can now see properly what cool watches they are.
We’ve also added Sports Watches as a collection in its own right – as the super sporty Freestyle and Ice Watches wanted a room of their own.
